An introduction to sculpting: This piece was made out of lumber otherwise destined to become part of a building. I cut disks out of it and stacked them, then patiently sanded them down back into an organic form. To accent the piece, I included textural details in both the cap and stem, which are reminiscent of many different fantastical mushrooms. I applied oil to highlight the grains of the wood and create a smooth and natural finish to it's new character.
